INGEMAR Kirsten, AUSTRALIA:: EXPLORATIONS OF SENSE OF PLACE WITH PLANT DYEING, LEAF IMPRINTS AND STITCHING

I was born in Denmark where textiles and making have always been part of my life. I got my degree in textiles, specializing in dying and printing and have since explored a large range of surface dyeing techniques. I have worked as a textile artist in Australia for over 20 years as well as teaching in diverse settings, including COFA in Sydney, Flying Arts in Queensland and numerous workshops around the country. My work has been a blend of different dyeing techniques, collage and stitching, and since moving to Northern NSW it has simplified to be predominantly plant dyeing and hand stitching. I love the way you can get involved with textiles- right into the core of the fibre.

EXPLORATIONS OF SENSE OF PLACE WITH PLANT DYEING, LEAF IMPRINTS AND STITCHING

Through collected and found objects, plant material and internal processes we will explore the natural environment where we are. I will invite you to be drawn to places and things in nature and use these sensations as starting points to the mark making with natural dyes, and rust dyeing.

We will explore leaf imprints and other mark making with natural materials to integrate with hand stitching and collage. While the dye pots keeps simmering we will explore the possibilities in each sample as the pieces of cloth emerge. Let the marks and colours become starting points for the next step of the creative process.

Let yourself be stirred for more.
