Jo Dixey, New Zealand: Exploring Stitch

I am a professional embroiderer who trained at the Royal School of Needlework in the early 1990's. I work on traditional commissions as well as teach and hold exhibitions of my work. I am constantly inspired by the world around me so use traditional embroidery techniques to create contemporary stitched works that hopefully make people think. I released my 1st book, Stitch People in Aug 2017, This is a project based book for beginner embroiderers with all the designs based on people. This book is part of my long term plan to convert the world, one person at a time, to love stitching!!

Exploring Stitch

During this week you will take hand embroidery to another level. You will be introduced to a variety of stitches and embroidery techniques with which you can create your own hand embroidered masterpiece. We will talk about choosing the best stitch/technique for the design or effect you desire. You can either create a collection of small samples or start to plan and stitch a larger piece. My main inspiration is people but you can use the same techniques to stitch anything that pops into your head. Hand embroidery is not fast so the workshop will be relaxed, stress free and fun. This workshop would suit those beginning their embroidery journey as well as those who have been stitching for years but want to play with stitch for a week.
