Ines SEIDEL, GERMANY: Curiosities from Paper and Wire

Ines is best known for her playful paper experiments and altered books. Her favourite materials are those that are apparently no longer useful, but are still rich with associations. Especially discarded books and old newspapers. Ines’ background in communication and language studies often is visible in the objects she creates. But also nature and organic patterns are a major inspiration for her work. Creating art for her is as much about exploring personal and cultural stories as it is about encouraging others to dive deeper into their own creativity.

Curiosities from Paper and Wire

Drawing inspiration from natural forms and patterns we will explore how wire and paper  combine into organic shapes. Be prepared to discover unusual species and wondrous oddities!

We will start the days with a bit of sketching to get a feel for outlines and textures. Drawing with wire in 3D is the natural next step. During the workshop we explore different methods of connecting wire with paper, of creating forms and structures. (Soldering is not part of this workshop.) As our main tools are our hands, the preferred wire is the easy-to-bend winding wire you get at craft stores.  Almost any paper will work – from tissue paper to used tea bags to book pages. Depending on your preferences, a variety of other materials can be added   - yarns, beads, found objects etc.

This experimental workshop is available to all ability levels.

Let’s enjoy being creative in a cabinet of curiosities!
